This is a walnut ink drawing/painting of my friends antique buddha called “The Scholar” – also an appropriate submission for the “Illustration Friday” topic of “old”. He’s a wooden carving and as I understand it they were found in Buddhist Temples. The walnut ink is fun to draw and paint with. It’s also easy to wash out areas that you might want to change. Definitely will be doing more with the walnut ink. 🙂

It’s a gorgeous painting! Walnut ink was the perfect paint for it. A blogging friend from eons ago made me a couple of little bottles of it. I really should break it out to use.

Thanks, Teresa! I’m really enjoying it and think it will be a great illustration medium. I bought the crystals that are easy to liquify. 🙂

I didn’t know they sell the ink…and as crystals! I can always make my own, too; we’re surrounded by black walnut trees. I’m too lazy though. 😀

Just buy the crystals, much easier and very inexpensive. 🙂 1 tsp = 1/2 cup of ink – you can find it on ebay $7 per 2 oz. bottle.
